Bhubaneswar: Sabitri Brata or Sabitri Amabasya is being celebrated across the State with married women, believed to be representatives of the mythological sati Sabitri who had saved her husband from the clutches of death with her strong faith and devotion, visiting temples and observing fast for the long life of husbands.
As part of the puja, all married Odia women dressed up in traditional sarees, wearing auspicious new red bangles and fasted for their husband’s long life. Women of all ages were seen making beelines at temples across the State, waiting for their turn to pay obeisance to different gods and goddesses for the wellbeing and long life of their husbands.
Married women are believed to be representatives of the mythological sati Sabitri who had saved her husband from the clutches of death God, Yama, with her strong faith and devotion.
Sabitri osa is a beautiful festival that makes the bond of marriage stronger.
Women inmates of jails in Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Puri, Balasore and other jails also observed the puja.
