Malkangiri: In yet another instance of Maoist violence, a tribal youth was injured critically after being shot at by armed rebels at Silakuta village in Malkangiri district late Sunday night. He has been identified as Mangulu.
Sources said a group of armed rebels barged into his house and dragged him out of his house before opening fire at him on suspicion of being police informer. Mangulu sustained bullet injuries on thigh. He was admitted to Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Silakota and later was shifted to the district headquarters hospital.
Sources said around 10 armed Maoists barged into the house and asked him about his complicity with the police. Later, they opened fire at him following which he fell down. Presuming that he is dead, the Maoists later fled the spot.
Police said Mangulu had earlier worked for Maoist outfit some years ago and had surrendered before police. After his surrender, he was motivating the people not to support the ultras and urged the Maoists to join the mainstream.
In a related development, the BSF jawans busted a Maoist camp in Dayapada forest under Orkel police station limits during a combing operation on Sunday evening. Around 10 cadre Maoists managed to flee when the jawans raided the area.
The BSF personnel seized huge cache of arms and explosives from the camp.
Combing operation has been intensified in the area, police said.
