The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has successfully completed the city's first-ever stray dog census, revealing a population of 47,126 stray dogs in the city.


Key Findings

- Total Stray Dogs: 47,126 (23,047 males, 15,552 females, and 1,124 puppies)

- Sterilization: 4,068 males and 3,335 females have been sterilized

- Population Percentage: Stray dogs constitute 3.62% of Bhubaneswar's population


SignificanceThe census, conducted in two phases from September 18 to 25, will help the BMC:


- Track Dog Population: Monitor dog births and deaths annually

- Provide Food and Vaccines: Ensure adequate food and vaccination for stray dogs

- Enhance Public Safety: Prevent accidents and spread of infectious diseases
