India's Bio-Economy Eyes $300B Target by 2030: Experts

India’s bio-economy, encompassing biotechnology, medicine, and agriculture, is projected to surge to $300 billion by 2030, according to Professor Sudhir Kumar Sopori, Chairman of the Biotech Research Society, India (BRSI).


Speaking at the 'Biotechnology for Sustainable Development and Circular Economy' international conference at the University of Education and Research (UER), Prof. Sopori highlighted the government's push through initiatives like the National Bio-Pharma Mission, Bio-AI Hub, Bio-Agriculture, and Bio-Energy to promote industrialization and indigenous production.


Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Director Professor Ashish Ghosh, the chief guest, underscored biotechnology’s vital role in human welfare, citing its use in developing COVID-19 and other vaccines. The three-day conference, organized by CIBIR and BRSI, has drawn 40 eminent scientists from 28 countries, fostering discussions on harnessing biotechnology for societal benefit.
