A 15-year-old girl from Nuagopalpur village in Puri district, Odisha, was set on fire by three unidentified miscreants on Saturday morning. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar with 75% burn injuries and is in critical condition.
According to sources, the girl's health condition is critical, and she's receiving oxygen support in the ICU. She has sustained second and third-degree burns, with her body about 75% burnt. The patient is mentally depressed while talking, according to AIIMS Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas.
A 14-member medical team is engaged in her treatment under Dr. Sanjay Giri's supervision.
Reportedly, the victim's statement has been recorded in the presence of a magistrate, and an investigation has been initiated based on her statement.
The Puri police are checking CCTV footage in the relevant area to identify the culprits.
A special team has been formed to investigate the incident, and scientific teams have reached the spot.
SP Pinak Mishra and Additional SP Debashish Mishra have reached the spot, but the SP has refused to give more information about the investigation.
