Assembly witnesses frequent adjournments amid din over rape cases

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly today witnessed pandemonium over rising cases of rape especially minor rape cases in various parts of Odisha.

Congress and BJP MLAs created ruckus over the issue and didn’t let the House to function. Unable to run the House, Speaker Pradeep Amat adjourned the House twice first till 12.50 pm and again till 3 pm when similar situation prevailed.

Opposition Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati showed the various newspapers featuring different rape cases. BJP legislators also rushed to the well and shouted against government demanding reply from Chief Minister.

Leader of Opposition Narasingh Mishra said a jungle raj is going on in the State. Women especially the minor girls are no more safe. The children below 10-years-old are being raped every day. Why our demand for a discussion is being sidelined.”

BJP questioned the silence of the chief minister. “Why the chief minister remained silent on these issues? We want to know what measures have been taken against these cases,” BJP MLA Rabi Naik said.
