Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has been appointed as the Governor of Odisha, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said on Wednesday.
Das will replace incumbent Prof Ganeshi Lal.
President also appointed Indra Sena Reddy Nallu as the Governor of Tripura. The appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.
“The President of India is pleased to make the appointments --Indra Sena Reddy Nallu as Governor of Tripura. Raghubar Das as Governor of Odisha. The above appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices,” read the press communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Das was the first non-tribal Chief Minister of Jharkhand (from 2014 to 2019). He is currently a national vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The former CM was elected to the Bihar and Jharkhand Assembly five times and represented Jamsedpur East assembly seat from 1995 to 2019.
Starting his political career during student days, Das had participated in the Jayaprakash Narayan led political movement. He was also was jailed during emergency.
