Vigilance officials on Monday nabbed a doctor of District Head Quarters Hospital (DHH), Subarnapur while taking a bribe of Rs 5,500 from a patient.
The accused has been identified as Dr. Sanjib Kumar Kar, Opthalmologist.
According to reports, Kar has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance while demanding and accepting bribe Rs 5,500 from a complainant for conducting cataract surgery of his uncle.
The surgery is done free of cost in Govt. Hospitals across the State. In spite of this, Dr. Kar was demanding bribe from patients for doing the surgery.
The complainant, being a poor man, requested Dr. Kar several times to do the cataract surgery of his uncle, who is an ailing old man and an octogenarian, but he insisted on the bribe amount to be paid before the surgery. Finding no other way, the complainant informed to the Vigilance Authority about the matter.
Today, Dr. Kar was nabbed by the Vigilance team while accepting bribe from the complainant.
The entire bribe money has been recovered from accused Dr. Kar and seized, said officials.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations of Dr.Kar in Bolangir and Subarnapur districts, they added.
