CM Naveen doles out sops for elderly on poll eve

Bhubaneswar: With the State likely to go to poll in the early part of 2019, the BJD-led government today came out with sops to lure voters from elderly section in Odisha.

CM Naveen Patnaik today announced old-age pension for 5 lakh additional beneficiaries, who will avail Rs 300 and Rs 500 a month as per criteria under Madhu Babu Pension Yojana.

The additional beneficiaries will get the benefit from December 15, Patnaik said, while reviewing the PEETHA (People Empowerment-Enabling Transparency and Accountability of Odisha Initiatives) scheme at State secretariat.

He also announced to include more 40,000 artistes under Mukhyamantri Kalakar Sahayata Yojana. Patnaik directed the district Collectors through video conference to implement the announcement.

The state government had earlier enhanced the monthly pension of artistes from 1000 to Rs 1,200.

The beneficiaries will be given their pension at special camps which would be organised by the district administration between 15 and 20 dates of every month.
