Bhubaneswar: Protest from inside the Congress party has once again raised its ugly head a day after the AICC appointed the new DCC chiefs and its working presidents.
Senior Congress leader and former minister Suresh Routray, who has also been appointed as the DCC president Khurdha district, openly opposed the party decision of ‘one Man One Post’ move.
“Appointment of working president is a welcome step which can strengthen the party. I am not a Gandhi or Goapabandhu that I would toil hard day and night. I am toiling hard for the party since I lost election. If the One Man One Post scheme is implemented, the organisation would weaken further. Why should one do labour alone to strengthen the party without any return?,” he asked.
“I urged the high command to withdraw such decision. If such rule is implemented, Niranjan Patnaik himself and other working presidents like Naba Das and Pradeep Majhi also would not contest the poll’ he added.
“I will never go against the party. But my last wish is to contest election,” he added.
Earlier, Congress had decided the DCC chiefs can not contest the election.
Similarly, Bhubaneswar DCC chief Manoranjan Das also expressed displeasure over One Man One Post rule. “I welcome the changes. I have been working for the last 18 years to strengthen the party and will continue to do so”, he said.
Koraput MLA Krushna chandra Sagaria, who is at loggerheads with party MLA and Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati, also expressed displeasure over the appointment some inefficient party men as DCC chief. He directly targeted Tara Bahinipati’s wife Minakhi, who has been named as the Koraput district president of Congress.
“Minakhi had not cooperate with party candidates during last election. Appointing her as district president will gain no fruits”, Sagaria added. Similalry, some people who have little association with the party have been appointed as the working presidents, he alleged.
