Jeypore: Koraput-based Central University of Orissa (CUO) authorities today closed the institution indefinitely following student unrest.
The decision was taken keeping in view the agitation of the students against the Vice-Chancellor Prof Sachidananda Mohanty.
The students were sitting on a gharna in the campus demanding fulfillment of 52-point charter of demands.
Following the students’ agitation, university authorities have asked the students to vacate the campus by 10 am today.
The VC said as the students were out of control and there were chances of violence, the authorities had to declare sine die to maintain discipline. Meanwhile, one platoon of police force has been deployed in the university, informed Sunabeda SDPO.
Earlier, the students had staged dharna in front of the institute’s administrative building after a discussion with the authorities remained inconclusive yesterday. They had also decided to boycott the classes.
Their demands included immediate fill-up of teachers’ vacancies, basic facilities at the varsity hostels, setting up of more departments and establishment of a medical facility on premises of the Central University, among others.
