Dharmendra urges CM to take steps to end court logjam

Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to take urgent measures to restore normalcy in judicial functioning that has been stalled for around two months over spat between lawyers and police.

Naveen should immediately intervene in the matter to end the deadlock in the greater interest of litigants, Pradhan said through a video posted on Facebook.

“Due to the stalemate, employment, land disputes, bails and other issues have been severely affected. A feud between judiciary and executive has emerged. What will happen if such situation persists? Shouldn’t the CM be concerned about it?”

As the CM has held the Home portfolio, he has some sort of responsibility towards the judiciary. “I am not here to decide who is right or who is wrong; but the issue exposed government’s apathy as it is sitting as a mute spectator,” he added.

People waiting to get justice will be mostly benefited as soon as the deadlock ends. The CM may give the responsibility to either the DG, chief secretary or anyone else, but there’s an urgent need to sort out the problem, he added.
