Bhubaneswar: Six days after Cooperation Minister Surjya Narayan Patro dared BJP to prove its allegation that paddy is being procured at prices below the stipulated minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 1,750 per quintal in mandis across the State, BJP Krushak Morcha activists on Thursday tried to barge into the State Secretariat here claiming that they have come with proofs.
Holding placards and banners, the members of the farmers’ wing of the BJP suddenly appeared in front of the Gate No. 4 of the Secretariat in a bid to barge into the Secretariat to produce the proofs of distress sale of paddy before Minister Patro. However, police personnel immediately swung into action and prevented them from entering the Secretariat.
A scuffle also ensued between the police personnel and protestors. Later, police managed to take the protestors into preventive custody.
Earlier on Friday, Minister Patro rubbished the allegations levelled by the BJP and other Opposition parties that paddy is being sold at prices lower than the MSP.
The Minister dared the Opposition parties to produce proof.
BJP Krushak Morcha chief Surath Biswal said that the agitation for the cause of farmers will be intensified.
