Govt to cut salary of agitating teachers

Bhubaneswar: Rubbing salt into the wounds of agitating teachers, the government has warned to cut their salary for remaining absent in the schools.

In a letter to the District Education Officer (DEOs) and Block Education Officers (BEOs), the School and Mass Education department asked to check the attendance of teachers and ensure that those remaining absent without permission & without proper ground do not get salary for the days they remain absent.

The department further stated that the unauthorised absence by contractual teachers would be treated as reason for not renewing the annual contract due in next March. The department directed the DEOs and BEOs to disengage such teachers after following due procedure.

On the other hand, agitation of the teachers of block grant schools and colleges entered 22nd days today. They decided to gherao the residence of MLAs.
