Bhubaneswar: Dubbing the inter-ministerial committee constituted to look into the demands of farmers as a drama of government, senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Srikant Jena today questioned the Odisha Chief Minister’s silence over the valid demands of farmers.
“In a letter to the CM, Jena criticized the government for remaining mum on farmers’ issues while waiving Rs 50,000 crore for ‘mines mafia’.
“What is the problem in enhancing the MSP of paddy to Rs 500 per quintal? On one side, you (chief minister) waived Rs 50,000 crore for mines mafias who are only 60 families, but what prevents you to waive crop loan amounting to only Rs 15,000 crore for lakhs of farmers. Moreover, what is the problem in giving Rs 5,000 to farmers per month as pension?”, he asked.
“If you waived thousands crores of rupees for mines mafia within half an hour after convening a meeting of ministers, Why such drama of inter-ministerial committee for farmers”, he asked.
