Malkangiri: Maoists killed a relative of a contractor by slitting his throat near Sheraguda under Mathili police limits protesting road construction work in Malkangiri district late Monday night. They also torched multiple vehicles which were used in the construction work.
A poster issuing warning against undertaking developmental works in the area was also found from near the body.
According to sources, a group of armed Maoists raided the village last night and threatened a contractor to stop road construction work in the area. Later, they dragged out a youth, identified as Gupta Swain, a relative of the contractor from the house and killed him by slitting his throat.
Before fleeing the place, the red rebels set ablaze some vehicles which were engaged in the road construction work.
Meanwhile, Mathili police reached the spot and started investigation into the incident.
