Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik called upon the citizens to create sustainable urban spheres and save the forests for future generations by planting trees on the occasion of International Day of Forests on Wednesday.
Forests are the elixir of life on earth, said Patnaik.
“On #InternationalDayofForests focusing on ‘Forests & Sustainable Cities’, let’s pledge to create sustainable urban spheres & save them for future generations by planting trees & spreading life-giving green canopy on our cities & towns,” twitted the CM.
Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik also appealed the people across the globe to plant trees on International Day of Forests through his sand art.
“Today is #InternationalForestDay . Let us pledge to #Saveforests to Save Earth and plant more trees to save our future. One my SandArts,” said Pattnaik while twitting some pictures of his sand art on the day.
Notably, the International Day of Forests is observed on March 21 every year since 2012.
This year’s theme, ‘Forests and Sustainable Cities’, provides the platform to increase awareness on the role of forests in storing carbon, which helps mitigate the impacts of climate change in urban areas.
