Bhubaneswar: Samata Kranti Dal of Braja Kishore Tripathy and Utkal Bharat of Kharavela Swain today merged to float a new entity called ‘Odisha Ganatantrika Sammukhya’ to take on ruling BJD in the upcoming election.
The new front which was born to two regional parties, will work to dethrone BJD by contesting the election jointly, Tripathy and swain said at a joint press meet.
Odisha under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik has come down to minimum level in every front. Instead of generating employment opportunities and focussing on development of infrastructure, the government is busy distributing money from the State ex-chequer to gain political mileage. The law and order situation has completely collapsed. The new front will focus on these issues, Kharavela Swain said.
Measures have been taken to expand to new party. Senior leader Bijoy Mohapatra, former MP Baijayant Panda, Dilip Ray, Panchanan Kanungo, Srikant Jena and Damodar Rout have been consulted. They are likely to join the new force soon, Swain informed.
The like mined parties who are keen on working for the State are always welcome, Braja Tripathy said.
Former Minister and veteran leader Damodar Rout, however, refused to join the new force, but agreed to extend moral support. “I can’t join the new party. As they are opposing Naveen Patnaik and working to oust him, I would extend moral support to them”, added Rout who along with Braja Kishore Tripathy had floated Biju Samata Kranti Dal.
On the other hand, BJD downplayed the new front’s show of strength. BJD leader Debasish Nayak said Naveen Patnaik has become an institution. No other party can challenge BJD in current scenario, he added.
