Angul: A goods train derailed near Jarasingha in Angul district today. The driver of the train died on the spot due to the accident.
According to reports, the fly-ash laden train of JSPL Ltd was heading towards Raigarh-based cement when the mishap took place.
The cause behind the accident was yet to be ascertained. Around 10 wagons of the freight train went off track, sources said.
Earlier in the day, two persons were killed and two others sustained critical injuries as the car, in which they were travelling, collided head-on with a truck at Pitamahal Chhak, Rayagada at around 10 am on Saturday.
The car was on its way to Rayagada from Andhra Pradesh when the mishap occurred. Fire and police personnel rescued the ill-fated persons from the car. The driver managed to flee from the spot.
The police have started investigation.
