Sagaria’s resignation accepted; Congress strength remains same after Tirkey’s induction

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat today accepted the resignation of Krushna Chandra Sagaria as MLA from Koraput.

Despite his resignation, the number of Congress MLAs in Odisha Assembly has remained same as 16 after induction of Gorge Tirkey into party fold. His application was accepted by the Speaker as a member of Congress in the Assembly.

Tirkey, on September 19, had joined the Congress party formally at the AICC headquarters in Delhi in presence of party president Rahul Gandhi and PCC president Niranjan Patnaik.

A four-time MLA Tirkey had won Biramitrapur assembly seat as a Samata Kranti Dal nominee in 2014.

Similarly, Koraput MLA Sagaria had tendered his resignation to Speaker on November 6. His letter was accepted by the Speaker today and his seat in the House has been occupied by Tirkey.
