‘Save the Children’ observes International Day of Girl Child

Kandhamal:  Save the Children in collaboration with SWATI organized a district level programme here to commemorate International Day of Girl Child. Rasmita Karan, District Child Protection Officer (CDPO) attended the programme as chief guest.

This event brought together over 115 participants to highlight issues surrounding the girl child. The meeting discussed about the safety and measures to empower girls in school and villages. The event was organized on October 11 which marked the fifth anniversary of International Day of the Girl Child.

“Self-protection education of girl can only protect them from any abuse. So, we have to be confident enough and unite,” said Rasmita Karan.

More than 100 children took pledge against child marriage and violence against them in Kandhamal district.

At the event, 11 girls were rewarded for their notable effort to stop child marriage and re enroll adolescent girls for education

The United Nations in 2012 declared to observe the day as International day for girl.
