Sambalpur: Police today arrested five more persons in connection with the bloody clash between two groups that left two dead yesterday. With the arrest of five, the total number of arrested persons has reached seven as the prime accused Pandab Mukhi and one of his associates were arrested yesterday hours after the crime.
Mukhi had hacked one Sujit Nag of Thelakopada area over past enmity while supporters of Nag barged into the house of Mukhi and attacked his family members in which Mukhi’s brother Sankar was killed.
Mukhi had a long-standing past rivalry with Nag. He had a verbal altercation with Nag on Monday over some reasons. He chased Nag with a sharp weapon and hacked him repeatedly leaving him grievously injured. Locals rushed him to hospital. However, he succumbed to the injuries on the way.
Irked, the supporters and neighbours of deceased Nag attacked the family members of the accused in which brother of Mukhi identified as Sankar was killed. The irate locals also set afire his house.
Massive security forces were mobilised to maintain law and order as the entire area remained tense. Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora personally monitoring the situation.
