Shah goes acidic against Naveen Patnaik at Puri women convention

Puri: Launching a scathing attack on Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for indulging in anti-poor activities, BJP national president Amit Shah called upon the people of Odisha to change the government for all-round development.

Addressing the national convention of BJP Mahila Morcha in Puri, Shah said the central funds meant for the welfare programmes are being siphoned off by the officers.

“Modi Ji is providing crore of rupees for the development of Odisha people. But, the funds are directly going to the pockets of officers. Our mothers, sisters, farmers and labourers are deprived of their rights. It’s enough. You have given 18 years to him, but he has given you nothing. Give us only five years, I promise we would make Odisha a number one State,” Shah said.

“Today’s rally is death bugle for Naveen government in Odisha. This government has lost every right to remain in power further after consecutive terms of misrule. Naveen Babu is only worried for his chair & not people of the State,” Shah added.

Reasserting his claim to grab power in Odisha in 2019, the top BJP leader said Narendra Modi will become the prime minister in 2019. If party workers in Odisha work hard, not only will there be a BJP PM, but also a BJP CM.

The BJP top brass also came down heavily on the Chief Minister for implementing the Ayushman Bharat Yojana and depriving the poor people of health care facilities. “He (Patnaik) is afraid that if Ayushmaan Bharat is implemented in Odisha, PM Modi will be popular. He is more concerned about his chair (as CM)”, Shah pointed out.

He alleged that there is an unholy nexus between government and millers in the State which led to the harassment of farmers. They are not getting adequate and timely remuneration for their crops, he alleged.

Shah also listed the status of women in Odisha by saying “the state is number one in harassment of women, fourth in dowry harassment, fifth in the number of gang rapes, sixth in the number of acid attacks (among all states)… instead of being number one in development.

Highlighting the contributions of the BJP government at the Centre, he said 5.5 crore gas connections were provided and 16 crore jan dhan accounts were opened for women. There are 13 crore mudra women beneficiaries and 7.5 crore toilets for women”, he said.

Hitting out at BJD, Shah said that the party has been formed after Biju Patnaik. But, it lacks all ideologies and principles of Biju Babu. He accused the party and state government of complicity in the death of 14 BJP workers in Odisha. “The more you (BJD) spread the swamp of violence, the more will the lotus bloom”, he said.
