Students of two Mayurbhanj schools walk miles to meet Collector, Sub-Collector to air grievances

Mayurbhanj: Aggrieved over various irregularities in the school and harassment by the school authorities, hundreds of students of two different government-run schools in Mayurbhanj district jumped over the hostel wall on the wee hours of Friday and walked miles to meet Mayurbhanj Collector and Karanjia Sub-collector, respectively.

In the first instance, the students of Class-V to Class-X of SSD School at Shyamakhunta in the district jumped over the hostel wall on the wee hours today and walked down 15 kilometres to meet Mayurbhanj Collector to intimate the officer regarding the problems they are met in the school hostel.

The students also alleged that the headmaster of the school, identified as Himanshu Sekhar Patnaik often tortures them mentally and physically.

“The food in the hostel is very bad. The dal is watery, the potatoes almost remain uncooked. We are also provided burnt food,” said a student.

“We had earlier complained the matter to the concerned authorities but ours requests fell in deaf ears,” added the agitating student.

Meanwhile,

has suspended Patnaik in connection with matter.

Similarly, 250 girl students of Tota Girls’ Residential School walked around 18 km to met Karanjia Sub-Collector today.
The girl students complained the Sub-Collector regarding the various irregularities in their school.
