Bhubaneswar: Incessant rain accompanied by wind under the influence of nor’wester since morning has disrupted train and flight services in the state. Overhead electric wire has snapped due to strong wind and is lying the on the track near Lingaraj station in Bhubaneswar. Cuttack-Puri passenger train stood on the track for around three hours and passengers had to get down from the train and walk to reach their destination.
Angul-Puri Passenger halted at Bhubaneswar station and Tata-Kacheguda, Talcher-Puri stopped at Mancheswar station, Bhadrak-Bhubaneswar at Barang station. Puri-New Delhi Nandankanan express has not yet leave Puri station.
Falaknuma Express halted at Tapanga and Bhubaneswar-Bengaluru express at Nirakarpur.
New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Vistara 785 flight was diverted to Kolkata following heavy rain and strong wind. Some others also failed to land in Bhubaneswar due to bad weather.
Railway signals are not functioning at many places especially Bhadrak-Bhubaneswar-Puri route, sources said. Several trains on this route have been delayed. Railways department has expedited operation to resume the rail service at the earliest.
State Capital Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Jajpur, Khurdha, Dhenkanal and other places of the State witnessed intermittent rain today in the morning. Trees were uprooted at many places due to the wind. Communication has been hit partially in several places.
People in Cuttack suffered most as they had to wade through knee-deep water especially in low lying lane. The Civic body authorities swung into action to drain the overflowing water.
The weather department has forecast more rain and lightning and alerted 15 districts like Dhenkanal, Sundergarh, Khurdha, Nayagarh, Boudh,, Mayurbhanj,Kendrapara, Sambalpur, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Angul, Puri, Bhadrak, Sonepur, Balasore.
The situation is likely to continue for next 14 hours, Met officials said.
