Bolangir: The Crime Branch today took prime accused Punjilal Meher on six-day remand to extract more information on the sensational wedding gift blast that killed two persons including a newly-wed groom and his grandmother on February 23 in Patnagarh here.
Meher was taken to Patnagarh police station from the local jail for interrogation.
The probe agency had produced him in the court after his arrest and sought 14-day remand. However, the court allowed the investigating team to take him for six days.
Meher, the sole accused in the parcel bomb blast case was on Wednesday and produced him in a local court.
Earlier, DGP RP Sharma had confirmed that Bhainsa College Lecturer Pujilal Meher was involved in the parcel bomb blast case.
Punjilal’s involvement in the case was confirmed after a detailed CB investigation.
The most important part of the case is that Punjilal had planned the crime and executed it almost single handedly. He himself assembled the bomb with his own technique and went to Raipur carrying it in the shape of a parcel and got it booked at a courier office near a railway station.
Six other suspects, including Skyking Courier, Patnagarh branch owner Dilip Das, courier delivery boy Sushant Sethy, Chandramani Meher, Baibhasuth Bindhani and two others, who were being grilled by the CB officials, were released on the day.
The explosion occurred on February 23 in which groom Soumya Sekhar and his grandmother were killed while bride Reemarani sustained severe burn injuries. She was under treatment for over a month.
Soumya Sekhar and Reema had married on February 18. Five days later, they received the parcel gift.
