With no food & water, Air Asia passengers stranded in Kolkata as fog prevents landing at Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Around 150 Bhubaneswar-bound passengers travelling in an Air Asia international flight were stranded in Kolkata airport after remaining inside the chopper for two hours without food and water yesterday.

The international flight-FD112 was returning from Bangkok and was scheduled to land at Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar yesterday. But due to dense fog in the sky of, it was diverted to Kolakata.

Some passengers alleged that they were not provided food and water since last evening. They were stranded inside the flight for two hours and later in airport lounge. No arrangements were made for safe return of the passengers, they alleged.

On the other hand, Bhubaneswar airport authorities denied the passengers’ allegation. “An Air Asia international flight had to divert to Kolkata due to dense fog yesterday. The company authorities provided them hotel accommodation and proper food and beverages. But, they had to remain inside the flight for quite some time. We are discussing with the Air Asia authorities to prevent recurrence of such incident”, said Suresh Chandra Hota, Bhubaneswar airport director.

Another domestic flight of Air Asia also failed to land here due to fog and was diverted to Kolakata. The passengers were not provided accommodation as per their company police, Hota added.
