The Odisha government has taken decisive action following a tragic stampede during the Rath Yatra festivities in Puri, which resulted in three deaths and over 50 injuries. The incident has led to significant changes in the district administration.



- Transfer of Officials: Puri District Magistrate Siddharth Shankar Swain and Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra have been replaced by Chanchal Rana and Vineet Agrawal, respectively.

- Suspensions: Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishnu Pati and Commandant Ajay Padhi have been suspended for negligence in duty.

- Inquiry: A high-level administrative inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident, led by the Development Commissioner.

- Compensation: The state government has announced an ex-gratia of ₹25 lakh to the families of the deceased.



Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed sorrow over the incident and assured that those responsible would face exemplary action. He emphasized that the Rath Yatra is a matter of pride for the Odia nation, and any negligence will not be tolerated.

 Former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik criticized the government, alleging a "complete failure of crowd management" and highlighting the need for improved safety measures during large events.
