Rajiv Shukla is poised to become the interim president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) next month, succeeding Roger Binny, whose term ends on July 19. Binny will have to step down due to the BCCI's age-limit clause, which states that no person can hold any post after attaining the age of 70 years. Since Binny turns 70 on July 19, Shukla will take over as the interim president.

Shukla's term as interim president is likely to continue till September when the elections for the next set of BCCI office-bearers are scheduled to take place.

As Shukla will be 66 years old by the time the BCCI's annual general meeting is held in September, he will be eligible to contest the full-time president election.

Shukla is currently the BCCI vice-president, a position he has held since 2020. He has been a long-time cricket administrator and served as the IPL commissioner from 2011 to 2017.

As per tradition, the acting president is given to the person who is the most senior in the BCCI until a full-time president is elected. Given Shukla's position as vice-president, he is next in line to take over as the interim president. This succession plan ensures continuity and stability within the organization.
