8.12 quintal ganja seized from onion-laden truck; two held in Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Malkangiri police on Saturday seized eight quintal ganja from an onion-laden truck and arrested two persons in this connection.

Police arrested the truck driver Dipak Sahoo and helper Biswaranjan Sahoo on charges of illegal transportation of the ganja.

The cannabis weighed around 8.12 quintal was being transported from Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh to Chhattisgarh State capital Raipur via Chitrakonda in Malkangiri district.

Based on a tip-off that the ganja is being transported in an onion-laden truck, a team of Mudulipada police intercepted the truck near Ghoda Ghat. Upon searching, police found ganja from the truck.

Police suspect that the duo could only be peddlers smuggling the contraband to Raipur and the kingpin could still be at par.

The investigations are still underway to identify the other links of the accused involved in smuggling of the contraband.
