Anganwadi salary hike: BJP flays Odisha govt for announcing Centre’s decision in its own name

Bhubaneswar/Berhampur: In its latest move to gain political mileage out of the central scheme, the BJD-led State government yesterday declared the Centre’ announcement of salary hike of Anganwadi workers and helpers. A day after CM Naveen Patnaik announced to implement the salary increment, the BJP lashed out at the State government for such announcement that was decided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi two months ago.

Attending ‘Jabab Maguchi Odisha’ programme in Buguda of Ganjam, Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan came down heavily on Naveen Patnaik-led government while addressing a massive gathering. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the same hike in October. But the State government remained silent without implementing the centre’s decision. “As the election is round the corner, the CM declared to implement the hike in a bid to attract voters”, he said.

The State is giving more burdens to the Anganwadi workers, but don’t think about the social security. Their salary in many BJP ruled States has reached Rs 13,000 per month while post retirement incentive touched Rs 1 lakh, but Odisha government has no time to think about their social security.

Similarly, bureaucrat-turned BJP leader Aparajita Sarangi also lambasted the State government for making such announcement which was already done by the Centre earlier.

“PM Sri Modi announced raising the remuneration of Aanganwadi worker, Mini AWW and helper by Rs 1500, Rs 1300 and Rs 750 on 19.9.2018. The central Govt wrote letter to implement it from 1.10.2018.  The announcement is just the implementation of Central Govt decision already taken”, she tweeted.
