BJD protests cash crunch in ATMs; BJP launches ‘Latka’ campaign against CM

Bhubaneswar: Holding Centre responsible for the cash crunch in ATMs, the BJD activists today staged silent demonstration in front of the Reserve Bank of India here and various nationalised banks across the State while BJP countered it with issuing ‘Latka’ against CM Naveen Patnaik.

The BJD protesters resorted to 2-hour picketing in front of all nationalised banks in silent way. The party had yesterday announced that it would not hamper the bank functioning.

The regional party alleged that the country is suffering due to faulty economic policies of Centre.

“It is unfortunate that the people are not able to get their hard earning money which they have deposited in various banks,” said a BJD activist protesting near RBI.

As ATMs run dry in various parts of the state, normal life was put in huge trouble, they said.

BJD leader Sanjay Das Burma said “There has been an undeclared financial emergency in the country. As ATMs of almost all banks in the state are running dry, people are facing hardships in getting cash.”

On the other hand, the BJP put ‘Latka’ in the name of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in all the urban local bodies (ULBs), mentioning about the failure of State Government to provide basic services.

BJP State vice-president Sameer Mohanty said the State Government has failed to fulfil election promises relating to supply of drinking water, spend Central funds under the Amrit scheme.
