New Delhi: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), a party which has utterly failed to give farmers their legitimate rights, today made a get together with its leaders, ministers, MLAs and MPs in the National Capital, saying that are fighting for the interest of farmers. It was alleged by the Opposition parties and farmers’ outfit.
Farmers’ organisation-Naba Nirman Krushak Sanghathan alleged that BJD applied a different strategy to gain political mileage out of farmers’ issues ahead of 2019 election. “We never oppose the demands of the farmers. But, BJD government which had prevented the farmers to converge on State Capital by using police forces today went for a picnic in Delhi. The party is not really sensitive towards farmers’ plight. It had a great opportunity during election for Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson to bargain with Modi-government. But, it didn’t do that”, NNKS convenor Akshya Sahoo said.
The farmers’ outfit, which has been spearheading a movement for price, Pension and Prestige, also today met Governor with their demands.
It may be recalled that activists of the outfit were tortured, beaten up and arrested by police in different occasions. Opposition parties also trained guns against the BJD. They dubbed the BJD’s farmers’ rally as eyewash.
When BJD organised a rally titled ‘Krushak Adhikar Samabesh’ in Delhi, Opposition BJP and Congress also hit the road in State Capital. The BJP today called for ‘March to Secretariat ‘Challo Secretariat’, a bid to gherao the Secretariat, alleging denial of Rs 1750 as MSP of paddy to farmers. The party alleged that the State government failed to open mandi in any parts of the State. Farmers are forced to sell their produce at lower price of Rs 1000 in absence of government procurement centres. The BJD has camped in Delhi for a picnic, not for farmers’ right, BJP vice president Samerer Das said.
Similar views were echoed by the Congress also. PCC president Niranjan Patnaik tweeted “Today Naveen Patnaik and Co. are going on a picnic to Delhi which costs Rs 52 lakh. They are doing this in the name of the farmers. Had this money been given to farmers in debt, many precious lives of our ‘annadatas’ could have been saved”.
If the BJD had any concern about the farmers of Odisha, they would have waived off farm loans like the Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh Congress govts.. and also announced bonus on MSP, Patnaik tweeted.
