Bhubaneswar: With Cyclone Phethai coming closer to Andhra Pradesh coast, several southern Odisha districts have experienced rain today under its influence.
Due to the cyclonic storm which is likely to make landfall in the afternoon today near Kakinanda in Andhra Pradesh, heavy downpour is likely to lash Odisha’s 11 districts including Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri district today. The wind speed will be 70 to 90 km/h during landfall, IMD sources said.
As per the advice of weather department, Gajapati district which badly hit due to cyclone Titili has swung into action to face the calamity. The district administration has evacuated over 11000 people from the low lying area to safe cyclone shelter homes. They were kept in 147 cyclone centres, Collector said.
Rain started in several districts of south Odisha under the impact of the system. Bolangir recorded 31 mm rain while Sambalpur witnessed 21 mm and Kalahandi registered maximum 37 mm rain since last night.
