Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today requested Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat to take necessary measures for the safe evacuation of 42 Odia pilgrims stranded in Badrinath due to heavy snowfall.

“Spoke to Hon’ble CM Uttarakhand @tsrawatbjp ;requested him for safe return of 42 Odia pilgrims from Bhanjanagar area who are stranded in Badrinath due to heavy snowfall;he assured all support and medical care to the pilgrims” Pradhan tweeted.

In response, Uttarakhand CM stated that he has ordered the concerned authorities for rescue of the Odisha pilgrims. “Thank you @dpradhanbjp ji for your call regarding 40 Odisha pilgrims visiting Uttarakhand for Char dhaam Yatra; I have issued the orders for safe evacuation of all the pilgrims. We will take steps to ensure safety & security of everyone & will keep you informed of the development,” Rawat tweeted.

The district administration has contacted the local Collector and police to rescue them. Ganjam Collector Vijay Amrita Kulange said cash will be deposited to the bank account of the stranded pilgrims. “We are in touch with local administration for their rescue” he added.

Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) wrote to his Uttarakhand counterpart for rescue of the Odia pilgrims. “We have spoken to the stranded pilgrims. They have been provided with hot water and tea. They need food. We have requested the Uttarakhand government for food arrangement,” joint relief commissioner Prabhat Mohapatra said.

As many as 42 Odia pilgrims have been stranded while returning from Badrinath due to incessant snowfall that disrupted the movement of pilgrims to the Himalayan shrine.

All the pilgrims are from Bhanjanagar of Ganjam district. They all had left for the Himalayan State to visit the Badrinath dham.

Heavy snowfall occurred yesterday while they were returning after offering worship at the shrine. The roads were blocked forcing the tourists to stop mid-way.

The pilgrims have been stopped at several halting stations on the Badrinath route till the weather is clear.
