Konark/Bhubaneswar: Premises of Sun Temple at Konark have turned into a virtual artificial pool due to incessant rain for the last 24 hours under the influence of south-west monsoon and cyclonic storm over Bay of Bengal.
Archaeological survey of India (ASI) engaged three pumps to drain out the accumulated water. However, the process of clearing waterlogging has not been expedited after one of the pumps gets defunct.
The plight of tourists, wading through knee-deep water, exposed the poor drainage system at the UNESCO world heritage site.
Tourists who booked tickets were seen returning from the entrance.
Meanwhile, the MET department forecast the rain to continue till next 24 hours due to active monsoon. The quantum of rain may decrease from June 29 to July 5.
