Paradip: Coming down heavily on the Narendra Modi-led Central government, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said today that Mahanadi issues have not confined into a political battle, but it has turned into a people’s movement now.
Addressing a rally on the concluding day of 10-day long Mahanadi Surakhya Abhijan, Patnaik said “The Central leaders are visiting the State and shedding crocodile tear. They should first stop the construction on Mahanadi in Chhattisgarh. People of Odisha have understood their double standards.”
“Can they (BJP leaders) oppose the work of Chhattisgarh,” he asked.
“Mahanadi has dried up due to the projects of Chhattisgarh. Livelihood of thousands of fishermen and farmers has been affected. We will give a befitting reply as our life and livelihood is being hit” Patnaik said.
“We are not fighting for just water, we are fighting for the life of Mahanadi. If Mahanadi needs to be saved as a river, water level should be maintained in its 500 km basin during summer,” he added.
BJD’s Paradip MLA Damodar Rout lambasted PM Modi over Mahanadi Dispute issue. He said “Mahanadi river has dried up due to Chhattisgarh. Former PM Vajpayee had solved several issues and Modi should learn from him. This arrogant politics will not sustain for long.”
The ten-day long mega rally that began from Jharsuguda has culminated today at Paradip.
