Bhubaneswar: The All Odisha Contractors’ Association on Monday gheraoed the residence of Works Minister Prafulla Mallick here alleging that they are harassed by the government through different criteria in the tender process while non-Odia contractors are being shown undue favour by the State.
Pressing for fulfilment of their 27-point charter of demands, the protesters alleged that 90 per cent construction works were awarded by the non-Odia contractors.
Contractors’ Association Prabhat Das “ The government should not allow the non-Odias to take part in tender process tenders up to Rs 200 crores. Odia contractors are left with contracts hardly worth Rs 500 crores while a lion’s share of it is being awarded to the contractors from outside the State”.
There is a large scale corruption in the Third Floor. The officials are awarding works to the non Odias to collect huge amount of funds as PC, he alleged.
“Construction work that can be completed with a budget of Rs 100 crores is being pegged at an inflated cost of Rs 500 crores. The remaining amounts are being distributed among concerned officials. It is happening at the behest of Third Floor in coordination with second floor. Corruption has reached an all time high which will break the backbone of the State,” Das alleged.
Minister Prafulla Mallick said that he was not informed about their scheduled demonstration, which is unconstitutional and illegal. “The Association had earlier apprised about the matter and I had assured to resolve it after discussion with Finance Minister and Finance Secretary,” Mallick said.
