Odisha Assembly stalled over teachers’ issues, petrol price hike

Bhubaneswar: The State Assembly on Friday ran for just around five minutes as members of both Congress and treasury benches stormed into the well of the House and created ruckus over teachers’ issues and rise of fuel price respectively.

The BJD members shouted slogan against BJP-led Central government for the faulty policies that led to the hike of price of diesel and petrol.

Similarly, Congress legislators created heavy pandemonium, raising issues of block grant teachers who have been on dharna for last 23 days in Bhubaneswar. The Opposition alleged that government’s apathetic attitude towards the teachers has brought a disrupted education system.

Unable to run the House, Speaker Pradeep Amat adjourned it till 3 pm.

Opposition Congress also moved an adjournment motion on teachers’ issues, which was accepted by the Speaker. School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra will reply on the adjournment motion in the afternoon after House reassembled.

On the other hand, after adjournment of the House, BJD MLAs moved straight to a filling station near Ram Mandir Square to protest against the price hike. They staged demonstration in front of the petrol tank.
