Bhubaneswar: Odisha today asked the Centre to establish a Defence Industry Corridor and an Aeronautical University in State.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik stated “I would request you to kindly consider to set up a dedicated Defence Industry Corridor in the State. It is also requested that the proposed Aeronautical University to be set up in collaboration with HAL could kindly be considered for setting up in Odisha to further strengthen the skill and R&D ecosystem”.
The State is committed to ensure unmatched facilitation support for both the projects, he stated.
He demanded the two institution citing some competitive advantages like presence of leading steel and aluminum industries, availability of defence and aerospace grade products, Chandipur ITR, DRDO lab, Ordnance factory in Bolangir, Aero engine facility in Koraput and large acres of industrial land bank along with large pool of skilled manpower.
Presence of some national institute like IIT, NIT, IIM, IIIT, NISER, XIMB is also an advantage which can encourage to set up the two projects, Patnaik added.
