Odisha govt in deep slumber: PM Modi in Bolangir

Bolangir: Highlighting his government’s achievements and performance in last five years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today lashed out at the Opposition parties including BJD in Odisha for being insensitive towards the welfare of the people.

Addressing a massive gathering at Patharachepa in Bolangir today, he slammed the State government for unable to spend the central funds for the improvement of the standard of living of people especially the tribals.

“Our government set up District Mineral funds which would be spent for the welfare of the local people. These areas, which are playing important role in the development of the country with its mineral resources, had remained mostly backward. But, we have set up district mineral fund so that the funds would be utilised for the development of local areas”, Modi said in his third visit to the State within a span of three weeks.

“Odisha has got more than Rs 4,000 crore due to our decision to create District Mineral Fund. It will help in the development of the tribal areas where mining is carried out. Unfortunately, the state govt hasn’t been able to spend that money for the welfare of the tribals”, the PM rued.

“Odisha government is in a deep slumber. What happened to it? he asked.

In a month, more than Rs 20,000 crore of development projects have been either inaugurated or initiated in Odisha. Can anyone expect it, Modi asked.

Projects worth more than Rs. 1,500 crore in sectors like education, connectivity, culture and tourism, that have been kick started today, will not only spur the growth of Odisha but also of eastern India, the PM maintained.

During the tenure of previous government, the rations cards, gas connection and scholarship were given to false beneficiaries, through which crore of rupees were siphoned off.

“In the last 4 years, we have cancelled around 6 crore fake ration cards, gas connections, and scholarships. We plugged this leakage, saving crores of money. All ration cards have been digitised and around 80% of ration cards have been linked with Aadhaar. All ration cards have been digitised and around 80% of ration cards have been linked with Aadhaar to check irregularities”, Modi said.

Through this process, the government successfully checked the flow of black money. “When money flow was prevented from going to their pockets, it has stopped their illegal income. So, it is quite obvious that they would take grudge on me”, Modi said.

“But, I promised in the land of Lord Jagannath that this choukidar would put these looters in jail for looting the people’s money”, Modi maintained.

Underscoring his measures for conservation for India’s rich culture and tradition, the Prime Minister also lambasted the parties who were opposing the Statue of Unity, which now became a major tourist destination of the country.

“Some parties were against organizing International Yoga day. They raised questions on erecting the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. There was a time when sculptures were stolen from temples. Today, we are making efforts to bring them back from other countries”, the Prime Minister pointed out.
