Bhubaneswar: Nine years after the tragic day when she was attacked with acid, Pramodini Roul got engaged to her long-time beau Saroj Sahoo on the Valentine’s Day in Lucknow.
They got engaged at the Cafe Sheros in Lucknow in the presence of their family, colleagues and other acid attack victims.
Padmini, popularly known as Rani and Saroj was seen doing couple dance on popular Hindi songs ‘Dil Diya Gallan’ during the engagement ceremony.
The group of 20 acid attack survivors also performed in during the event.
Rani also joined a group dance by acid attack survivor friends on ‘Main Ghani Bawri’ and ‘Manohari’ mash-up in the party.
This is the first time in the country when the acid attack survivors are celebrating engagement ceremony with such pomp and show sending a message of meaningful love. The beautiful invites give a brief about the couple under the title, ‘ The Unbelievable Tale of Love.’
Rani, then 16, was attacked by a paramilitary force jawan with acid on April 18, 2009 in at Tirtol in Jagatsinghpur district after she rejected his marriage proposal. She suffered 80 per cent burn injuries and complete vision loss in the attack. She got 20 per cent vision back (left eye) after operation in July last year. The assailant was finally arrested onNovember 17 last year.
Rani met Saroj on April 8, 2014 when she was admitted to a hospital in Cuttack. Saroj was a medicine representative by profession and a friend of Rani’s nurse.
While undergoing treatment at the hospital, Saroj after hearing Rani’s fight came to see her and gradually befriended with her.
Saroj took a four-month break from his company to help Rani out and made her stand Rani, who was down with depression with no movement then, on her feet with the help of physiotherapist and doctors.
Later, when Rani came in contact with Chhanv Foundation, which runs Sheroes Cafes and hav also lauched ‘Stop Acid Attack’ campaign from where the acid attack survivor’s life did not took U-turn.
