Bhubaneswar: Eminent litterateur Ramakant Rath has been selected to receive Atibadi Samman – the highest honour of Odisha Sahitya Akademi, for his lifetime contribution to Odia literature.
Ramakant Rath, born in Cuttack, had earlier received Sahitya Akademi Award, Saraswati Samman, 1992, and Bishuva Samman, 1990, and Kabir Samman, 1993.
His major works include Kete Dinara, Aneka Kothari, Sandigdha Mrigaya, Saptama Ritu, Sachitra Andhara, (all poetry), Sri Radha and Sri Palataka. A number of his poems have been translated into English and other Indian languages.
Atibadi Jagannath Das Samman, introduced by Odisha Sahitya Akademi, was first conferred on Radha Mohan Gadnayak in 1993. It is awarded to an Odia language litterateur for his/her lifetime contribution to Odia literature.
The award is named after 15th century Odia poet Atibadi Jagannath Das.
