Thunderstorm wreaks havoc in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A thunderstorm struck several parts of Odisha especially Bhubaneswar even as it brought a brief respite from the gruelling heat of the day.

About 10 striking teachers were injured after tree uprooted during the thunderstorm in Bhubaneswar. A group of teachers staged demonstration at lower PMG when the mishap occurred. They were hospitalised.

High-velocity winds uprooted trees and affected road communication in several parts of the city also. The stretch between AG square and Raj Bhavan is worst hit.

Fire personnel and ODRAF teams have been pressed into service to clear the road.

In a separate incident, a big crack was spotted on a concrete road after a strange loud sound at Padmabati Village under Fatehgarh police limits of Nayagarh district. Suspecting it to be earthquake, people vacated homes and are found roaming in open field. The reason of the sound is yet to be known.

Meanwhile, Regional Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar issued thunderstorm alert for 6 districts – Rayagada, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar. People of these districts have been advised to remain alert – till 8:30 PM.
