A low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression in the next 24 hours, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall to Odisha. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for four coastal districts, predicting very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
The districts likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall include:
- Coastal Districts: Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak
- Other Districts: Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam
- Heavy Rainfall: Expected in various parts of the state for the next two days, accompanied by wind gusts of 50-60 kmph.
- Thunderstorms: Likely to occur in many areas, with moderate rainfall expected in districts not under heavy rainfall alert.

- Early Arrival: The southwest monsoon reached Odisha on Wednesday, about 14 days ahead of schedule.
- Coverage: The monsoon has completely covered Malkangiri and Koraput districts and affected some areas of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Gajapati districts.
