The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will conduct a dog count in the city starting from the second week of September. BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana has announced that the exercise will involve Swachhsathi workers, sanitation workers, and BMC officials.
Key Highlights of the Dog Count
- Duration: The dog count will be completed within 10 days, with special training provided to participants beforehand.
- Methodology: The count will be done in every ward under the guidance of veterinary doctors, and tags will be attached to the ears of dogs.
- Objective: The exercise aims to gather data on both pet and stray dogs in the city, including their sterilization and vaccination status.
The state government has decided to count all stray dogs in Odisha, with over 7 lakh stray dogs and 64,000 pet dogs reported in the state.
