The state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has approved six key proposals, including a new reservation policy in educational institutions and a mother's welfare scheme. The decisions aim to promote social equity and support vulnerable sections of society.
The cabinet has decided to implement 11.25% reservation for socially and economically backward classes in educational institutions, in addition to existing reservations for Scheduled Castes (16.25%) and Scheduled Tribes (22.5%). The reservation will cover:
- Higher secondary and vocational education
- Graduation and post-graduation programs
- Teacher education (B.Ed, M.Ed)
- Odia language and literature
The cabinet has also approved the "Mamata and Matru Vandana Yojana," a scheme to support mothers on the birth of their child. Under this scheme:
- Mothers will receive ₹12,000 on the birth of a girl child
- Mothers will receive ₹10,000 on the birth of a boy
The scheme aims to promote the well-being of mothers and encourage healthy practices.
