SOA Celebrates International Mother Language Day, Emphasizes Preservation of Odia Language

Siksha 'O' Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University observed International Mother Language Day on February 21, highlighting the importance of preserving linguistic diversity and promoting Odia language.


Eminent litterateur Prof. Gayatribala Panda stressed the urgent need to save languages, citing the disappearance of many languages and dialects worldwide. She emphasized that individual efforts are crucial in keeping one's mother language alive.


Prof. Panda, head of SOA's Centre for Preservation, Propagation and Restoration of Ancient Culture and Heritage of India (PPRACHIN), urged every family in Odisha to take responsibility for protecting and promoting Odia language.


Other notable speakers included:


- Eminent historian Dr. Nibedita Mohanty, who discussed the role of language in building the Odia race

- Renowned poet Dr. Aparna Mohanty, who emphasized the role of Odia mothers in strengthening the language

- Prof. Manas Behera, former professor of political science at Rama Devi Women's University


The program was conducted by Prof. Nihar Ranjan Mishra, and Prof. Goranga Charan Dash proposed the vote of thanks.
