In a heartwarming display of humanity, the parents of a six-year-old boy who succumbed to brain death after an accident have given a new lease on life to two children awaiting kidney transplants. The kidneys of the young boy were donated to two hospitals in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, through the efforts of SUM Ultimate Medicare (SUMUM).

The Accident and Donation Process

The child suffered severe traumatic brain injury after a heavy iron gate fell on him at Baripada. Despite medical treatment at a hospital in Balasore and later at SUMUM, the child's condition didn't improve. After conducting the Apnea test twice, doctors declared him brain dead. The distraught parents, after counseling from the medical team, selflessly decided to donate their child's organs.

Organ Donation and Transplantation

The hospital authorities collaborated with the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) to rush the boy's kidneys to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, and a private hospital. This noble act has given hope to two sick children awaiting transplants.

SUMUM's Efforts in Organ Donation

This is the fourth time SUMUM has facilitated organ donation, with a total of 13 organs retrieved from brain dead patients and sent to various hospitals in the country and state to save lives. Dr. Swetapadma Dash, CEO of SUMUM, assured that the hospital will continue promoting organ donation. Prof. (Dr.) Manojranjan Nayak, Founder President of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA), praised SUMUM's efforts in popularizing organ donation.

Promoting Organ Donation

SUMUM's initiative has set an inspiring example, highlighting the importance of organ donation in saving lives. The hospital's commitment to promoting this noble cause will undoubtedly encourage others to follow suit.
