Puri: Police today arrested 12 more persons in connection with the violence during protest in Puri against queue system at Sri Jagannath temple.
Singhadwara police arrested them on the complaint of temple administration. Earlier, 11 protesters were arrested. 16 cases have been registered with Lion’s Gate and Town police stations and 62 accused persons identified so far.
Four special police teams have been formed to nab the accused who include street vendors, criminals and some servitors.
Cases have been registered against about 100 persons for arson, loot and attack on police personnel.
A day after the violence, DGP RP Sharma had visited the temple and directed Puri SP to identify the accused protesters by scanning the CCTV footage and media footage and arrested them as early as possible.
Jagannath Sena, a local socio-cultural outfit had observed bandh on October 3 protesting against the queue system.
